1) The roadways- The Maya had some of the best roadways of any of the ancient empires. Maya roadways were even comparable to the Roman's roadways. The Maya roads made it easy to pass through the wild jungle that the Maya lived in. they made these roads by having solid ground on bottom, then on top of that they would put big stones, then on top of that small pebbles, and then to finish it off and make it smooth there would be a very thin layer of soil.
2) Maya Arch- this allowed the Maya people to create long interior spaces, and to create multiple story level houses . This let the Maya dwellings be a lot more open, and have a new style for the doorways.
3) Cement- The Maya also developed cement. This was a great development, this helped the Maya by allowing them to build high rise cities, and to build a structure that withstand the tests of time, and all of natures forces on it.
4) Water Management- The Maya had to have been great at managing their water resources. The natural climate of the Yucatan Peninsula is a six month dry season then a six month flood, so the Maya people had to find a way to be able to hold the water for the dry season. The main way that they did this was by using chultunes. This is a deep hole in the ground that collects rainwater. they would store water here for the dry seasons.
5) Agriculture- The Maya had the big issue with agriculture because the Yucatan peninsula has thin soil, and weather that can be very restricting as to when plants can grow. The Maya solved this problem two ways they either used terraces, or they used wetland agriculture, wetland agriculture is a series of raised land and canals, so the water gets to all the crops.
